Virtual Tour Support

VisitEarth uses either the Java or QTVR plug-in for displaying its Interactive Panoramas and Virtual Tours. Below we have summarised support for our QTVR and Java-Based Virtual Tours.

Full-Screen QTVR (QuickTime Virtual Reality)

To view our Full Screen Interactive Panoramas you need the Apple QuickTime Player plug-in installed on your computer. The free standalone QuickTime Player is available for download from Apple directly.

Java-Based Virtual Tours Support

Our Java Virtual Tours require the Java plug-in if not already installed.

To view VisitEarth Java-Based Virtual Tours you will need:

Windows:

  • Win 2K, Win XP, Win98, Win98SE, WinMe
  • PentiumII 200 MHZ or faster processor
  • 64M RAM minimum
  • Video display of 800x600 pixels or higher, 16-bit colors or higher supported
  • Internet Explorer 4.0 or later version, Netscape 4.0 or higher
  • Microsoft JVM (Java Virtual Machine)
Note: Windows 98/2K/Me/XP have JVM installed by default. However, for some Windows XP users, you need to install JVM seperately. Please download it at:
    http://www.visitearth.com/msjavx86.exe (5.2Mb)
Alternatively you can download the full Sun Microsystems Java download here:
    http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (15.2Mb)

Macintosh:

  • Mac OSX
  • G3200 MHZ or faster processor
  • 64M RAM or more
  • Video display of 800x600 pixels or higher, 16-bit colors or higher supported
  • Internet Explorer 5.0 or later version, Netscape 7.0 or higher

CD Virtual Tours Troubleshooting:

1) If after inserting the CD the tour does not autostart then Double Click on 'start.html' within the root directory of the CD to start the Tweed Horizons Virtual Tour.

2) Java Software is required and can be installed from the CD by Windows users by double-clicking on: 'jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p.exe'

Mac, Solaris and Linux users can download the Java Virtual software. See here for more details:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

3) If you have the Java Software but can't see the Virtual Tours on Window XP2 then here is the fix:

In Windows XP2, you will see following information when Virtual Tours are displayed:"To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options...".

To stop this message appearing in the future access your IE menu:

Tools> Internet Options> Advanced

Then under 'Security' make sure 'Allow active content to run in files on My Computer'.
